Dhaka College to Remain Shut till May 5, Students Asked to Leave Halls

The authorities of Dhaka College have closed all the residential halls and asked the students to leave dormitories by Tuesday afternoon, reports media.

A notice, signed by the college acting Principal Prof ATM Moinul Hossain, confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

The authorities took the decision over clash incidents between the college students and New Market traders that erupted on Monday night.

The classes and examinations will remain closed from April 19 to May 5.

At least 25 people, including journalists, were injured in series of clashes between the protesting students and the traders in New Market area on Tuesday morning.

Deepto TV's senior reporter Asif Zaman, cameraperson Imran Lipu, Ajker Patrika's reporter Al Amin Razu and SA TV cameraperson Kabir Hossain were injured while covering the clash incidents.

Vehicular movement is suspended from Azimpur to Science Laboratory intersection.

The clash first broke out in the market area around 11:30 pm on Monday after some traders beat up and stabbed two students of the college when they had gone to the market for shopping.

Police lobbed teargas shells and fired rubber bullets to bring the situation under control

Several people, including police members and the students, were injured in the clashes that lasted till 2:30 am on Tuesday.
